Why You're Still Stuck After Years of Shadow Work

You've named the pattern, journaled it, therapized it, forgiven the people who handed it to you, and maybe you have even forgiven yourself for keeping it alive for this long.

Still, it's here, lingering. And you're left wondering what you've done wrong. For so long you thought, "I must have done the technique wrong," and get down on yourself.

Then you notice that it's the same block in your career, relationships, finances, and life. There's a ceiling above you that you feel like you just can't overcome. You're stuck in this box that you can't escape. But.... you notice the box now, and now you can start asking different questions.

So you start asking the question underneath the question. It's not about "what's wrong with me." No, you're too far along for that one. The real question is: if I've done the shadow work, why isn't it working?

why am I still stuck after shadow work — I Guide you through my personal shadow work practice below

"Instead of journeying into the pain to fix a problem, I imagine it all as a computer system.. I'm the operator of the computer, the computer is my mind and my body, and sometimes computers need to be cleaned out."

The pattern isn't the problem. It's the proof.

Here's what nobody told you when you started this path. A pattern is not the thing you're fighting. It's the evidence of something deeper, and it's time to stop fighting. Surrender the fighting, because that pattern was built to protect you. So the pattern is really the proof of an imprint that was left upon you. So, there's a new question now.... which is, "What is that pattern trying to mask?"

Most energy work, shadow work, and healings work on the pattern, as if it's something to untangle, as if it is the problem, instead of focusing on the imprint itself. It names the energy blocks, softens them, reframes them, sometimes even talks you into peace with them. Yet none of that touches the origin point where the pattern was first written into you.

It's not about healing the moment it happened, but more about "what does this experience mean?"

Meaning, the experience itself was a lesson, good or bad. When we can see it beyond the pattern and into the imprint and meaning making part of our minds, that take our journey into shadow work layers deeper.

The Labyrinth of the Shadow

See, the shadow is more like an onion. One imprint has several layers patterns, beliefs, and meaning makings laid upon it. Most people when they go into shadow work begin peeling into the onion, not realizing it's an onion, and they need to get to the center core.

It's not that the shadow work isn't working, it's that it's not yet complete. You haven't gotten to the roots of the imprint yet, therefore it's weeds can keep growing. Think like Dandelions and Quack Grass, the whole root is required, else it can regrow/remanifest in different areas or problems.

So let's say you work on the pattern through the modality of your choice, and the pattern goes quiet for a while. Then, it reorganizes and comes back wearing a different mask in a new relationship, a different client, or a new business model hitting the exact same ceiling as the last one.

This time you went really deep. You had so much hope you fixed it for good. But this time.... the defeat feels even more crushing, because you thought you had it. Why is this happening?

It's because the shadow is a labyrinth, and it coils deep into the unconscious mind. The shadow holds all the rejected parts of ourselves, all of the repressed pain and emotions. Things we've dealt with on the conscious layer, but haven't released in the unconscious layers.

So, when go into the shadows and practice shadow work to escavate and solve patterns, we also open up all of these layers of emotions, old stories, and pain that are flowing through those inner tunnels. You go in to solve one thing, but you end up in a whole other section of the labyrinth working on something entirely different. Old emotions, beliefs and patterns can even resurface, leaving us feeling more overwhelmed than before.. leaving some wondering why they practiced shadow work to begin with.

Here's the thing though. Shadow work isn't bad, and it doesnt have to be hard. We just need to be more conscious of it, learn how to navigate the layers, reach the core, and release it. Many of the current conversations on shadow work don't go deep enough and glorify it. It's not realistic to what it's really like. It's uncomfortable AF. Most people stop as soon as that happens. Or they keep pushing through until they can't go any deeper.

It's not to say that effort does nothing, that is not true either. Every layer of the shadow we shift creates transformation and movement. But sooner or later, a similar problem pops back up. So if the conversation is about why doesn't shadow work work? The answer is, the problem will keeps manifesting in different forms until you get to the origin.

What "origin" actually means

When I talk about getting to the origin, I'm not necessarily talking about going back into your childhood, though it usually runs through there. I mean the precise moment and energetic imprint where a part of you decided it was no longer safe. It doesn't even necessarily need to originate in this life time, it can be karmically tied to your Soul. So, that imprint doesn't live in your experience. It lives underneath in the energy field, running the pattern like a program running underneath an app.

So yes the experience creates an origin, but the origin evolves and becomes much bigger than a singular moment. That experience takes form, building meaning, creating layers of protection, manifesting more experiences, and so on. That becomes a living vibrational field that no longer lives in the experience, but one that almost has a mind of it's own, running in the background, in the unconscious, leaving you feeling like you have no control.

Most practices haven't evolved deep enough to consider the whole structure and mechanism of the shadow, the unconscious, it's many confusing layers, and how it develops a consciousness of it's own, like a program running in the background on a computer.

A New Way of Practicing Shadow Work

Right now, I'm going to give you a new way of practicing shadow work. I'm going to tell you how to do it. It's a new way of seeing the shadow, that helps us create distance between us and the imprint. This helps detach more from the pain and the repressed emotions that keep you stuck.

As I describe it, just consider it. Then carry on with learning more about shadow work, as that will give you deeper context into how this practice is different and considers the many layers, intricacies, and deepset emotions exist within the practice of shadow work. This practice is one I developed for myself, to help me release shadows. My wish is that sharing it with you brings you the same peace and relief it has brought me.

First to understand the technique, we have to understand how the shadow interacts with the unconscious mind and emotions.

So where we are right now, we understand that a pattern is a protective mechanism that was created because of an imprint that a life experience left upon us. Often that comes with a series of emotions, beliefs, and meaning making that we may consciously deal with, but those ultimately go into the unconscious mind before settling into the shadow, which harbors the repressed and rejected feelings and parts of ourselves. It's not a straight shot down, it's not linear and it doesn't make sense. It's like a downward spiral staircase that morphs into something else and you can land anywhere. These emotions and beliefs effectively transmit to our body and are stored physically as pain, discomfort, tension, tightness, or dis-ease.

So when we do shadow work, we have to be intentional and clear, first and foremost, because it's super easy to get distracted, or for completely random things to pop out of the unconscious mind (this right here is why lots of people say meditation doesn't work - because their mind won't shut off. But actually they are accessing their stream of thoughts can't focus. But that's a blog for another time).

Okay so on to the tea, the practice. This practice is a visualization, and when you run into a belief, emotion, program, discomfort, or repressed part, we address it with curiousity to understand it. Now that you understand the mechanisms, here's the practice.

Instead of journeying into the pain to fix a problem, I imagine it all as a computer system. I'm the operator of the computer, the computer is my mind and my body, and sometimes computers need to be cleaned out. There's old programs, things we don't need, and sometimes malware.

So when a problem comes up, it's a program that's running on the computer. So I open up the computer, and I get curious about locating the file. I'd completely forgotten it was even on the computer and I lead with curiousity. What is this pattern tied to? What beliefs, thoughts, or emotions did the pattern create that's running through the system like coding? Instead of me living it, it's like I'm just watching it through the screen. It brings me a level of self-compassion, because seeing it in this way, I can understand why I felt a certain way or reacted a certain way. Not only because I'm human, but because I had an unconscious program running.

And so, because I can see it, and accept it from this vantage point as the viewer, or the computer operator, it becomes easier to let it go. I see it as deleting an old computer program. My body, and my mind are the computer, and I direct them to remove the program, all associated files, drives, and content created from that original program. I surrender into the release, through any waves of emotion, discomfort, and allow the energy to flow deeper.

This is an energy work practice, you are an energetic being by nature. You do not need any Reiki keys to do this. All you need is yourself, your body, and your intention.

I created a mundra that I pair with this technique, that I call "Control, Alt, Delete." Imagine that you are on your keyboard, and your left pinky finger presses "Ctrl", your left pointer finger presses "Alt", and your right pointer finger presses "Delete"

With practice, consistency, and using the above visualization paired with this mudra, your body knows when you practice this mudra, it is to activate the energetic clearing.

The Other Thing They Don't Tell You

Even with this technique, you'll get to a point where it's working amazing, and then it slowly begins to feels like it's hitting a ceiling. Friends, the ceilings never stop. You're not doing anything wrong. You just have to get better at recognizing them and being proactive.

Think of it this way, sometimes computers need to be updated. Sometimes they need to be replaced. It isn't all about the programs, but also the operating systems.

Sometimes you'll have gone through so many changes and transformations that you become a new person, but you have to let go of the old version of who you used to be, how those imprints made you who you are today, and how those patterns served you. It created an identity, and sometimes, that identity is over. But we have resistance to letting ourselves go, even though were 80% there, because we don't know what that means, what that will look like, or if we will lose people or things along the way.

I get it, it's unknown, and it can be scary. But even the hardest things can lead to the biggest breakthroughs. And that's why curiousity is your best friend through this. If we can be curious and less analytical, if we can be the computer programmer instead of the one experiencing the programs, then we can soften the process of transformation, which is always uncomfortable.

So when you feel and recognize those ceilings, it's not that the work hasn't worked. It's a proof that is has worked and you reached another point where you're becoming a new person. But before you can do that, you to drop the old system and upgrade to a newer version. Put into simple, actionable words, it's allowing yourself to lead with and live life with new values, new beliefs, new choices, now that you've done the deep shadow work to escavate and release those repressed emotions and beliefs that were holding you back.

So the ceiling never ends. We are always growing. The ceilings are proof of that.

We also need to remember that sometimes it isn't about getting the whole root system all at once. That can cut too deep and be too shocking to the system for some people, leading them to withdraw, while others who are seasoned in shadow work can handle those depths. So it's really not about "fixing it all at once," and more about a commitment to the path of change, and allowing those steps to be taken.

So many times I worked on something and thought I got to the core. Only to realize, I had just gotten a layer deeper. What I learned was, when a deeper layer comes up, it isn't a time to get mad or frustrated at myself, but actually a time to be grateful that I am ready for a deeper layer, because it's an opportunity to go deeper and create deeper change. Sometimes these journeys into change happen abruptly, sometimes it takes years. It's not about everything happening NOW, and more about committing to the process of change, and creating a new way of living, over time.

Shadow work isn't something you do once. It's a way of life. It works for some, and for others, it's too sharp, and that's okay. For shadow work to really work, you have to be in a place where you are able to sit through discomfort, face pains, and stay commited to the journey of change, however long it may last.

Where Antojai Quantum Reiki® meets you

This is the exact edge Antojai Quantum Reiki® was built for. It doesn't work on the pattern, the story, or the symptom. It works at the quantum origin point. Through the 12 Quantum Reiki Keys and the 12 Chakra System, the work moves underneath the computer and into the code itself, recalibrating the energetic blueprint at the point it was written, not the point it's currently showing up... because remember, it's a labyrinth. Lots of layers were built on this original root code. This root code created a foundational structure, and that whole structure is the root anchoring the problem.

The practice I shared with you above is a great way to actively start working through problems and choose change. It supports you on the energetic and unconscious level to enact the changes that you have already consciously commited to. It is not directly Antojai Quantum Reiki, it is energy work, however the Quantum Reiki keys do bring energy medicine in these areas and will amplify the effectiveness and depth of the practice.

This work is the difference between managing a pattern for the rest of your life and actually being finished with it. But the work isn't magic. It meets you at the leve that you're willing to go to. For some people, they can only go so deep, and that's okay. But the energy medicine meets you where you are at, and guides you deeper as you are willing to take the step. So you always remain a central piece to the work. That's the only way to create lasting change. A magic fix of energy won't change the person. The person needs to change in order to sustain another way of living life. The change must be sustainable, and so the person must participate and not only want change, but actively choose change.

For what you cannot see, cannot be resolved

You are an active participant in your own transformation. You hold power in this moment now, not in the story you've already told a hundred times, in this one right now. Here and now is where lasting change begins. Your choices is your greatest super power.

If you've been doing the work and the work keeps circling back to the same place, that's not a sign you're failing. It's a sign you've outgrown pattern-level tools and you're ready for origin-level work.

You can start with a free 20-minute Success Call to find out if this is the system you've been looking for, or read more about the system itself on the About Antojai page.

The edge is ready when you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I keep repeating the same patterns even after years of shadow work?

Because most shadow work is built to work on the pattern itself, softening it, reframing it, making peace with it.. and none of that touches the imprint underneath it. The pattern was never the problem. It's the proof that something deeper is still running the show. Until you get to the origin point where that imprint was first written, the pattern has nowhere to go but back.

Why do old triggers still show up even after so much inner work?

The unconscious isn't a straight line down to the root, it's a labyrinth. Every imprint carries layers of pattern, belief, and meaning stacked on top of it, and clearing one layer often opens a completely different section of the tunnel. So a trigger can go quiet for months and then resurface wearing a new mask, in a new relationship or a new business model, hitting the exact same ceiling. That's not failure. It's a sign the work reached a new layer, not the end of the layers.

What's the difference between shadow work and Antojai Quantum Reiki®?

Shadow work, done well, gets you moving through the layers, the patterns, the stories, the emotions stored in the body. Antojai Quantum Reiki® works underneath all of that, at the quantum origin point itself. Through the 12 Quantum Reiki Keys and the 12 Chakra System, it recalibrates the energetic blueprint at the exact point it was written, not just where it's currently showing up. Shadow work loosens the soil. Antojai Quantum Reiki® gets the root.
